Throughout May, YCADC and Yuma CARES Coalition collaborates a month-long Mental Health Awareness Campaign to highlight the importance of mental health at every stage of life. The campaign emphasizes that mental health is essential to overall well-being, strengthening individuals, families, and the entire community.
The initiative also highlights the critical connection between mental health awareness and substance misuse prevention, a central focus of YCADC’s ongoing conversation about building a supportive and connected community.

July and August mean back-to-school time for our younger Yumans! Being ready for Back-to-School means more than backpacks, binders, and bus schedules. It also means mentally preparing yourself and your children for the stressors and challenges they may face. YCADC | YCMHC | SAMHSA strives to provide parents and caregivers with the tools they need to support behavioral wellness. These tools are designed to help parents and caregivers talk to their children about mental illness and substance misuse, identify where additional support may be needed, and provide a connection to care. As we approach the new school year, let’s make ‘Caring for Every Child’s Mental Health’ a priority.
Stigma often begins with how we see and treat those who are different from us. Judging, ignoring, or showing hate can leave lasting scars. It can isolate someone, deepen their struggles, and make them feel invisible.
This campaign tackles the growing need for mental health awareness and support by breaking down stigmas, providing resources, and fostering open discussions about mental well-being. As stress, anxiety, and depression affect more people across all demographics, YCADC seeks to reframe mental health challenges as a universal experience, deserving compassion, understanding, and care.
